Training
Tailoring & Garment Making
From threading a machine to finishing a made-to-measure garment, taught at the workshop with a tutor at your shoulder.
Tailoring is learned at a machine, not on a screen. The reading is done at home; every stitch that matters is sewn at the branch under supervision.
You will finish with garments you have made yourself, a set of patterns you can reuse, and prices you can defend.
What you will be able to do
- Thread, operate and maintain a sewing machine
- Take accurate body measurements
- Draft and cut a pattern from measurements
- Construct a finished garment to a saleable standard
- Price your work and take orders from customers
What you need to start
- Attendance at the workshop for every practical session
- Tape measure, scissors, pins and chalk (a starter kit is provided if you cannot buy one)
- Fabric for your own projects — inexpensive cotton is fine to learn on
